When one looks at the track record of the U.S. Government (can you say Amtrack and the Post Office?) in running any program does one feel confident? Unfortunately, I sure don’t! Anyone who has dealt with FEMA knows it’s an unending nightmare. Many communities have not yet been reimbursed for Rita and Katrina? Living in Houston, FEMA is still trying to figure out what to do to help Ike victims. And?
Furthermore, so therefore I believe we’re seeing yet another wasteful and bureaucratic program established to help the auto industry!
On Monday, Obama said he was going to establish the “Recovery for Auto Communities and Workers Program” to cut through red tape and ensure that the full resources of our federal government are leveraged to assist the workers, communities, and regions that rely on our auto industry. To cut through the red tape? Government CREATES RED TAPE!
Government IS red tape personified!
Edward Montgomery, a former deputy Labor secretary, has agreed to serve in this role. Oh goodie! Furthermore, Obama said, “Your warrantee will be safe,” Obama tells anyone thinking of buying an American-made car. “In fact, it will be safer than it’s ever been. Because starting today, the United States government will stand behind your warrantee.” Wow, am I ever impressed. In fact, I think I’ll go out a buy a GM (government managed) car. Oh, WAIT! There’s no financing to buy a new car is there?
But, the IRS is today launching a campaign to alert consumers of a new tax benefit for auto purchases made between February 16th and the end of this year — if you buy a car anytime this year, you may be able to deduct the cost of any sales and excise taxes. This provision could save families hundreds of dollars and lead to as many as 100,000 new car sales. Let’s see now. If I SPEND MONEY that really means that I am SAVING MONEY?
Furthermore, don’t worry about a thing regarding the WARRANTY on your car because the government is going to INSURE that the warranty is taken care of. So, take your car in and get it serviced. Wrong! Take your car in and you may never get it back or do without it for a few weeks. The right hand does not know what the left hand is doing and both hands are scratching their head- before. they lose it!
